We Share the Same Sky: A Conversation with Author Rachael Cerrotti and Journalist Karen Weintraub

January 19, 2022

07:00 PM - 08:30 PM EDT

Rachael Cerrotti is an award-winning author, photographer, educator and audio producer. Her work explores the intergenerational impact of war and the inheritance of memory. She is currently the Inaugural Storyteller in Residence for USC Shoah Foundation where she produces and co-hosts The Memory Generation podcast.

In 2019, Rachael released her first podcast — We Share The Same Sky. It was the first-ever narrative podcast based on a Holocaust survivor’s testimony and tells the story of her decade-long journey to retrace her grandmother Hana’s war story. Her critically-acclaimed debut memoir, also titled We Share The Same Sky, was released in August 2021 and weaves together the stories of these two young women—Hana as a refugee who remains one step ahead of the Nazis at every turn, and Rachael, whose insatiable curiosity to touch the past guides her into the lives of countless strangers, bringing her love and tragic loss.

Joining Rachael in conversation is Karen Weintraub, a journalist who covers COVID-19, health and patient safety for USA TODAY. Before the pandemic, she was a Health and Science freelancer for outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, STAT and Scientific American.com. She was deputy Health/Science editor at The Boston Globe before leaving for a Knight Science Journalism Fellowship at MIT. She and her husband, Michael Kuchta, have lived in Cambridge for two decades and just finished a book on the history of innovation in that city, called "Born in Cambridge: 400 Years of Ideas and Innovators," which MIT Press is publishing in April 2022.

All are welcome to join us for this special evening of conversation about storytelling and the ways history intertwines with our present lives. Click here to RSVP and receive the Zoom link.
