On Friday, February 6, join for Shabbat services to hear Emily Tamkin, journalist and author of The Influence of Soros, Bad Jews, and a forthcoming work on Holocaust consciousness, describe the paradox of pluralism in American Jewish life. Pluralism requires us to accept interpretations of Jewish identity that are different from our own. But what happens when those other understandings reject our own self-conceptions as real, or when our own identities stand in conflict with others' equally deeply held beliefs about what it means to be Jewish?
