Katy Rothkopf, The Anne and Ben Cone Memorial Director of the Ruth R. Marder Center for Matisse Studies and Senior Curator of European Painting and Sculpture will give an online presentation on the collecting habits of siblings Claribel and Etta Cone. These two sisters from Baltimore assembled one of the most important collections of European Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in the United States. Over a period of 50-plus years, they changed the course of art collecting in America.

Following the presentation, Katy and Laura Albans, Curatorial Research Associate, will give a virtual tour of the Ruth R. Marder Center for Matisse Studies. The Center opened in December 2021, establishing a new space solely dedicated to the study of the French artist Henri Matisse. It serves as a major resource for scholars, students, and artists alike, and shines a spotlight on the largest and most comprehensive collection of works—over 1500—by Matisse in a public institution. The tour will show the Center's comprehensive library and will have some of Katy's and Laura's favorite Matisse works on paper on view.
