An unusual portrait’s theft and its travels around the world. Canvas. Pencil. Paint. How can one piece of art tear at the hearts of generations?
Provenance is a suspenseful uplifting play about the life of a sensual, unusual portrait from its beginnings in early 1900s German society, through its theft by the Nazis and its subsequent travels around the world. The play is La Ronde-esque, with actors playing multiple roles.

Jennifer Maisel
Jennifer Maisel is an award-winning playwright whose work has been produced and developed across the country and internationally. Her plays include The Last Seder (off-Broadway, starring Gaby Hoffmann), There or Here, @thespeedofJake (a Kilroys Honorable Mention and PEN West finalist), and Out of Orbit, which was developed at the Sundance Theatre Lab and named to the Kilroys List. Her work has been seen at theaters including Actors Theatre of Louisville, South Coast Repertory, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Playwrights’ Arena, and Rattlestick Theatre, among many others. Jennifer is the recipient of multiple honors from the Kennedy Center, SCR’s California Playwrights Competition, and numerous national playwriting awards and fellowships. She teaches playwriting at USC, writes for film and television, and is a graduate of Cornell University and NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
