From the Rag Trade to Ralph Lauren: How Jewish Designers Shaped Fashion
This four-session online course explores the remarkable impact of Jewish designers on the world of fashion. Beginning with European pioneers who set the stage for America’s fashion industry, we’ll trace the influence of Jewish immigrants in the early 20th century, the rise of garment unions, and the transformation of post-war style. We’ll then move through the decades—from the bold statements of the 1960s–90s to today’s era of “anything goes”—highlighting names such as Rudi Gernreich, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Zac Posen, and Rachel Zoe.
