Temple Israel Progressive Israel Caucus (TIPIC)
Wrestling with your understanding and feelings about Israel? Seeking conversations and a community that honors complexity rather than retreat to talking points? Since 2021, TIPIC has created brave spaces where those in the TI orbit can engage with Israel’s challenges and possibilities through a progressive lens—one grounded in human rights, peace, and justice for Israelis and Palestinians.
We believe that loving Israel means engaging honestly with its complexities. We share foundational values about human dignity, justice and equality, and we welcome wide-ranging conversations about history, current events and possible solutions to this deeply complex and longstanding conflict. TIPIC is for questioners and learners at every stage—whether you’re deeply knowledgeable or just beginning to explore these issues.
What We Do
- Guest Speaker Series: Engage with diverse speakers—activists, scholars, and those with a variety of lived experiences—who challenge us to think more deeply.
- Current Events Conversations: Process current and breaking news together, with context, curiosity and compassion.
- Book Group: Explore texts/podcasts that challenge our thinking and broaden our perspectives.
- Action opportunities: Connect our learning to petitions, gatherings, and advocacy that align with our progressive values, if you feel moved to take action.
- Inform our Community: Through our listserv, we inform our community about activities and opportunities outside of Temple Israel that we think might be of interest.
All in the Temple Israel community are welcome at TIPIC gatherings, regardless of where you are in your thinking or how your views are evolving. We follow Temple Israel’s How We Engage Norms for respectful engagement, believing that wrestling with hard questions together strengthens our community.

Israel Study Guide
The Israel Study Guide, created in June 2023, was carefully curated with links to many subjects, organizations, and web pages, organized by topics that deal with the historic and modern day State of Israel.
This guide was curated by members of the Temple Israel Progressive Israel Caucus, with support from Temple Israel clergy and Ann Abrams.
