Visit the Vilna

The 50s and 60s Group is excited to be among the first groups who will get to tour the recently renovated Vilna Shul on Beacon Hill. The Vilna Shul is the last remaining synagogue from Boston’s immigrant period. Built in about 1919, it was home to Jews mainly from Lithuania, who settled in “the West End.” After WWII, as the population began to shift to the suburbs, the congregation dwindled, and the gates closed around 1989. The building was acquired in 1990 by a group of people who wanted to save the building, as well as foresaw the need for a Jewish Cultural Center to be housed in this historical space. The Vilna’s mission is to bring diverse groups of people together through cultural and spiritual programing as viewed from a Jewish perspective. We have arranged for a private tour with a special docent, Maxine Goldberg who has been actively involved in the miraculous transformation of the space. Parking is located at 165 Cambridge St (lower level only, NOT the upper level which is Whole Foods parking). Bring your parking ticket to the Vilna for validation and you will then pay only $5.00. If you take the T, take the Red Line to the Charles Street Station. All participants must be masked inside The Vilna at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Our docent can be unmasked as she is vaccinated and will be 6 feet away from the other participants. Please register and pay HERE by Nov. 10^th. The tour will be limited to the first 20 people who sign up. The cost is $20 per person.
