19 Tishrei 5776
We had a great session yesterday afternoon – the class was very excited as we got to play ‘capture the student’ during our hebrew practice. We also wrapped up our first unit of the year called “stories.” As a class we have had four sessions together, in these sessions we have defined the words: story, myth, and sacred. We developed a ‘system’ for reading stories – our Temple Israel Grade 3 Graphic Organizer. Yesterday, to practice this new system we read The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco and filled out the graphic organizer in pairs. Throughout the unit, we explored two essential questions: ‘What makes a story true?’ and ‘If it didn’t happen does it mean it’s not true?’ – ask your child these questions and see what they have to say!
Don’t forget: This Sunday October 4th is Erev Simchat Torah. In lieu of Sunday morning classes we will all join together to celebrate Simchat Torah with a special K-7 program at 5:00 p.m. followed by our Consecration ceremony, the Simchat Torah service at 6:30 p.m., and then dancing with the Torah on Nessel Way.
שבת שלום (Shabbat Shalom)!
PS – don’t forget: each class session we will have a 10 minute break, or הפסקה, if your child would like to have a snack during this time, please send it with them as we do not provide snack.
