What is Torah? What ethical values can we learn from the Torah? What does the Torah teach us about leadership and justice?
5th Grade has been learning to navigating the Tanakh. TaNaKh is an acronym for Torah (the 5 Books of Moses), Nevi’im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings). Students made their own “My Tanakh” booklets using their knowledge of the texts.
We have also begun exploring the ethical values we can learn from the Tanakh. In groups, students discussed the stories of Job, Cain and Abel, and Jotham and Abimelech. Students then made comic strips to represent the stories and their attached morals. Students were also able to test their debating skills in a mock court case around the story of King Solomon and the baby. Students argued their cases and then decided on how to reach a just decision.
