The Talmud was redacted over 1000 years ago, but is still studied as the foundation for Judaism as we know it today. What's new is that now more people than ever before have access to translate, unpack, and argue with this prolific work. Come and learn what the Talmud even is and its radical origins, as well as how to traditionally study the text in its original form. All skill levels and backgrounds open (after all, Rabbi Akiva learned his alef-bet at age 40!).

This class will meet from 7:00p.m. to 9p.m. on Wednesday evenings in February. Click here to register.

Michaela Brown is in her third year at Hebrew College Rabbinical School and is an education intern at Temple Israel. She is currently participating in Hebrew College and SVARA's Talmud Pedagogy Fellowship, which is allowing her to share her love of Talmud with her peers and wider community. Originally from Northern Virginia, Michaela fell in love with Jewish community through her involvement with the youth movement, BBYO. Despite studying Jewish Studies in college, Michaela didn't know how to read Talmud until after graduation when she sought out learning at various yeshivot, including Pardes and Hadar. Michaela's passion is combining her love of feminism, queer theory, and sexuality with traditional Jewish sources to renew modern Jews' connection to our tradition. When she's not being a student or teacher, Michaela enjoys watching RuPaul's Drag Race, cuddling with her girlfriend's doggo, and scrolling through TikTok.
