Study Session and Havdalah with Scholar in Residence Dara Horn

December 10, 2022

03:00 PM - 04:30 PM EDT

Gather with us onsite on Saturday, December 10 at 3:00 p.m. for our closing study session with Scholar in Residence Dara Horn.

Adventures in Yiddish Storytelling and their Consequences

In this interactive study session, Dara Horn will guide us through an exploration of the life and complicated work of the 20th century Yiddish writer Der Nister in the context of the Yiddish storytelling tradition. By examining plot structures in Yiddish literature and the challenges Der Nister and many others brought to that tradition, we will take a deep dive into our own expectations for what stories should do, their role in Jewish life, and the disturbing possibility that stories actually can't save us.

All are invited to dig in and learn something new with us. After our learning together, we will end with Havdalah led by Temple Israel clergy.
