In recent weeks, people of all colors, ages, and backgrounds are flooding the streets of the United States to raise their voices against racial injustice. People of color continue to face exclusion and discrimination more than 150 years after the abolition of slavery.
The voting rights of people of color are under assault in many states. Each election, millions of Americans are prevented from voting due to the restrictions in the voter registration process, voter ID laws, voter roll purges, and elimination of polling places. Voter suppression undermines our democracy, which requires the full participation of all citizens.
We have a responsibility to ensure that every voice is heard and every vote is counted in the upcoming elections. Join Temple Israel’s Racial Justice Initiative in partnering with the Center for Common Ground’s Reclaim Our Vote campaign as we fight for our democracy in this non-partisan civic engagement campaign. We invite you to participate in our campaign launch; register here. We’re grateful to do this in partnership with the Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Actions and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism.
