Shabbat Tzedek and Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend of Social Justice
Since 1992, Temple Israel has devoted the Shabbat which precedes Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day to celebrating the values and life of Dr. King. We call this special Shabbat evening “Shabbat Tzedek,” a Sabbath of Justice. Hosted by Temple Israel’s Racial Justice Initiative in partnership with clergy, we welcome over 800 people from the TI community and our neighbors to celebrate Shabbat and learn from an invited speaker. This year we welcome honored guest Charles E. Carter, Jr., Ph.D., LICSW, CEO & Head of School at Beacon Academy.
On Shabbat Tzedek, TI will be collecting food for the Greater Boston Food Bank. Please bring non-perishable packaged food with you to donate to this drive.
The weekend continues on Saturday morning with Shabbat Tzedek Torah Study, Shabbat Tzedek Riverway Shabbat Slowdown (20s and 30s).
Our members are invited to join Bethel AME Church on Sunday morning for their prayer service honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
