Miriam's Well: Torah, Yoga, & the Moon

Wednesday Afternoons
4:00 – 5:10 p.m. Breath and Movement Yoga Practice
5:15 – 6:00 p.m. Torah & Community Time

Miriam’s Well is a space for connection. Each week, we gather for an all-levels, accessible-but-you’ll-still-feel-it, spiritually and anatomically informed Yoga practice led by senior teacher Evelyn (“Ducky”) Punch. The practice opens with a word of Torah from Yaakov, a rabbinical student at Hebrew College, and closes, for anyone who wants to join, with a warm community space, where we explore Jewish text and share our stories.

Miriam’s Well follows the Hebrew Calendar with 4-week cycles (and each class totally stands alone for a drop-in practice!). Themes for our time together, on and off the mat, vary with each new month. All are very welcome, across the spectrum of gender, sexuality, race, class, spiritual lineage (Jewish, or any other), age, and movement background. All types, all stripes — all stars. We’re glad you’re here.

If you have any questions about the movement practice or community/Torah time, Yaakov (yaakov.g-s@hebrewcollege.edu) would love to hear.

The Moon of Iyyar: Spring, Springs, the Waters They Sing

April 14 - May 5, 2021

Join us for the Hebrew month of Iyyar! This is the moon that brings us from Liberation (Passover) towards Revelation (the festival of Shavuot, where we ourselves stand at Mt. Sinai). And rumor has it Miriam’s Well is a huge, essential, oceanically vast part of the story. There is even a tradition that Miriam, together with Moses, is the Jewish Messiah (…!). This moon, as we finish the book of Vayikra, Leviticus, and prepare for our summer wanderings, we will uncover and dive into the not-so-secret yet hardly-known story of Ba’er Miryam ~ the living waters of Miriam’s Well, in the desert, by the Tabernacle, between the lines of Vayikra at the center of Jewish life.

This month’s community time is facilitated by Yaakov G-S, a Jewish breath and movement healer in rabbinical training at Hebrew College.
