Join Sara Gardner, culinary historian and all-around lover of bread, for this 4-class continuation of our baking-based diasporic adventure. We’ll be exploring the diverse culinary traditions that comprise the global Jewish diaspora as we hone our technical baking skills. This class will continue to explore techniques that will improve your sweet and savory baking while we learn about Jewish communities from across the globe. It promises to be a delicious time!

This class qualifies for the “Arts and Culture” category of the Chochmat Lev, A Learned Heart Certificate.

Class Registration

The Center for Adult Jewish Learning follows a “Pay What You Can” model for registration. To register for this class, click on the date below for the session you wish to join, select “Add” for each attendee you wish to register at the pricing level of your choice, then click “Proceed to Payment” to complete registration.

“Pay What You Can” Registration Details:
-Standard Registration is set at $25 per class session.
-Supporter Registration is set at $35 per class session. This level is for those who are able to contribute more to help keep our programs accessible for all.
-Reduced Registration is set at $10 per session. This level is for those who wish to participate but may find the Standard Registration fee prohibitive.

June 8: Sephardic dulses
Everyone loves candy, but did you know that Sephardic Jews have long made them part of their weekly tradition? We’ll dive into the fun world of Sephardic dulses, or candies, and confitures.

June 15: Crema ebraica
We’ll learn about the art of Italian dairy baking in this class, from ricotta timablos to crema fritta (fried cream).

June 22: Guava a la judeocubana
In this class we’ll explore the delicious, tropical delights of the Jewish community of Cuba, including guava and cheese pastelitos and guava Mandelbrot.

June 29: On the strudel bus
This class is all about the delectable Hungaro-Austrian Jewish delight of strudel – we’ll experiment with its particular dough and a variety of flavors, from poppy seed to prune to apple and beyond!
