Holidays and Festivals
We celebrate or commemorate all of the holidays and festivals of the Jewish year with worship services, or, in some cases, special programs. "Holidays and festivals" connote the following, in chronological order, beginning after the High Holidays:
Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Tu B'Shevat, Purim, Passover, Yom Ha-Shoah, Yom Ha-Atzma'ut, Lag B'Omer, Shavuot, Tisha B'Av. Our PTA sponsors Sukkot and Chanukah dinners for families with children; our Simchat Torah celebration, coupled with the consecration ceremony of our kindergarten students, includes the entire unfurling and viewing of our Torah scrolls as well as festive dancing; Purim is not to be missed, with our clergy, staff and congregation decked out in their finest and funniest attire; our annual congregational seder enriches our congregation's week of Passover; on Shavuot, we combine the liturgy of the festival with the graduation of our Hebrew School and High School, and the Confirmation of our 10th grade students; and we also mark, in significant ways, Tu Bishevat, Yom Ha-Shoah, Yom Ha'Atzmaut, Lag B'Omer and Tisha B'Av.
