Beit Midrash - Teen (8-12)
Monday Night School

Monday Night School, Temple Israel's Grades 8-12 Education Program, will be back starting in September 2006 and better than ever for another year of tasty dinners and cool classes. In an effort to focus on the programming and create an atmosphere that promotes a high level of learning opportunities, the Monday Night School Program structure is being slightly modified. Many of these suggestions come directly from our Teen Advisory Board. Over several months, teen representatives from the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade met with Laura Abrasley, our Youth Educator, to evaluate the current program and brainstorm about possible modifications.

We're confident these changes will add to the energy and creativity of our high school program.

Three changes in particular are being implemented in the upcoming all semester classes.

  • Monday Night School will now begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. Dinner will be from 6 until 6:30 p.m. with classes beginning at 6:30 p.m. sharp.

  • A new 8th Grade Academy at Monday Night School is being formed for this year's incoming 8th grade class. Special curriculum and several out-of-classroom experiences (i.e. field trips) have been planned for 8th grade students.

  • The schedule is returning to a semester system albeit slightly different than in years past. The year will include a 10 week Fall semester, an 11 week Winter semester and a 4 week Spring mini-mester. Fall and Winter semesters will each have an hour-long grade core class and a 45 minute elective. The spring mini-mester will have an arts and culture intensive focus with each elective class meeting 4 times for 2 hours each session.
We look forward to a great year of learning. Please feel free to contact Sara Schwebel with comments, concerns or questions about Monday Night School.
