New Board of Trustees Members
Mark Goodman married into long-time Temple Israel families - Ross and Rotenberg - and joined Ti in 2003. Rabbi Zecher married him and Abigail Ross and officiated at the baby namings of their three daughters. The two oldest children attended the FJECC pre-school. Mark is the founder of Terawatt Ventures, a Cambridge-based venture capital firm investing in clean energy technology companies. He holds a BA in Economics and Philosophy from Emory University, an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and an MA and Ph. D. in Philosophy from Boston College. In his doctoral dissertation he explored philosophical and poetic responses to the Holocaust. In 2010, President Obama appointed him to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. Mark and his family live in Cambridge.
Judy Katz has been a member of TI since 1998. She is currently a Board Member and Chair of the Leadership in Educadation Advisory Group (LEAG). Previously, she chaired the Teen Education Committee for four years. Judy has a background in international banking and consulting and graduate degrees in international relations and Near Eastern languages. She now works with her husband, Grant Rhode, in their construction management firm, GF Rhode Constructon. They have two daughters, Lauren and Jamie.
Marc Maxwell has been a member of Temple Israel for 22 years. Marc is an architect, specializing in facility programming, planning, architectural design and project management. As an active participant in Temple life, Marc has served on many committees and led our most recent renovations of the lower level classrooms, Levi Auditorium and the Riverway/ Meeting House Entry. He served as Vice President of Temple Israel from 2007 through 2009. Marc is a longtime Board member (since 2000), member of the Executive Board (when one existed), member of Building & Grounds since 1998; Chair of Building and Grounds since 2000; Chair of Capital Renovations Committee, member of Budget & Finance Committee, member of Development Strategy Committee, member of Temple Israel Tomorrow Capital Campaign Committee and Chair of Capital Recognition Committee. Marc and his husband, David, reside in Somerville.
Donald M. Perrin and his wife, Sandy, have been members of Temple Israel for over 30 years. Don spent his career as President of Crimson Tech in Cambridge, a leading provider and integrator of photographic and audio visual systems, which he founded in 1965. He is currently an active angel investor and has a particular interest in early stage startup businesses. Don is an Honorary Trustee and a current Trustee of Temple Israel, Trustee of Lesley University & Past Chair of its Board, Trustee of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Overseer of Newton Wellesley Hospital, Member of the Corporation of Partners HealthCare System, Overseer of The Museum of Science, Member of Board of Directors of the New England-Israel Business Council, Member of Board of Directors and Past President of Friends of the Libraries at Boston University. Don and Sandy live in Newton. They have one son, Scott, who is married to Amy, and three grandsons, Andrew, Jared, and Jeffrey.
Gary Pforzheimer and his wife, Mary, became members of TI in 1995. Years ago he helped reinvigorate the planned giving program at TI, including the Ner Tamid Society. Since then, he has been active with other development efforts in addition to his board responsibilities. Over the many years that his children were in the preschool, he served as the "unofficial director" of IT for Helen. Gary runs a software/consulting company that works with non-profits nationwide helping them raise planned gifts (such as gift annuities and charitable trusts). He and Mary live in Belmont with their three children: Adrian, 19, Anya, 15, and Sabrina, 10.
Ed Wolf has been a member of Temple Israel since 2001. He works for HubSpot, a software company in Cambridge. The majority of Ed's Temple involvement has been in the Riverway project. He has hosted a couple of Friday night Riverway services, regularly attends Soul Food and Electric Chapel and participated in Mining for Meaning. Ed lives in Somerville with his wife, Elena Clamen, and their children, Cameron and Sabrina.
New Leadership Council Members
Paul Bernon joined Temple Israel in 2008, and he and his wife, Ashley, were actively involved in the Stepping Out Boston Committee. He is a Principal of Rubicon Real Estate, LLC, an investment firm based in Wellesley, and is an active member in the not-for-profit community. He serves on the Board of Overseers at Children’s Hospital Boston, as the Chair of the Urban Renewal Committee, and Finance Chair of the Next Generation Developers Task Force. Paul also serves on the Athletic Director's Council at Boston University and on the Event Committee at Berkshire Hills Music Academy. In March of 2011,he was appointed by Governor Patrick to the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency and served as a Finance Co-Chair for the Governor’s successful re-election campaign. He is now Finance Co-Chair of Governor Patrick’s political action committee, TOGETHER PAC, and Finance Chair for the Massachusetts Democratic Party. Paul and his family reside in Wellesley Hills.
Frank Friedman has been affiliated with TI since 1994, when his daughter joined the very first Purple Room class in the Preschool, and he became a member of the Temple soon thereafter. His son has also gone through the Religious School and is currently in Monday Night School. Frank is an Emergency Physician at Tufts Medical Center and on the faculty of Tufts School of Medicine; he also serves on a Federal disaster response team and several regional emergency medicine organizations. Within TI he has served on the Leadership Council and was involved as a lay leader for the daily Minyan. Frank lives in Brookline with his wife, Sarah Kianovsky, and their two children, Yonit and Samuel.
Jill Hahn has been a member of Temple Israel since, toddler in arms, she stumbled upon the lifechanging Family Education program. That toddler, her daughter Emma, is now a sophomore at Brandeis University. Jill has a thorough training as a Religious School parent, having shepherded Emma and her two younger brothers (Jordan and Elie, junior and freshman at Newton South High School) through the program and having experienced two Confirmations and counting. Jill served as a member of the Religious School Committee for three years, and worked with Ohel Tzedek in its formative years, as a liaison with the Religious School community. Jill, who lives in Newton with whichever kids happen to be home, is a doctoral student and researcher at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Jeffrey Krane joined Temple Israel in 2006. He and his wife, Maureen Connelly, are the parents of four teenage children, all of whom have attended Religious School at TI. As the father of a child with special needs, Jeff has long-standing interests in religious education for children with learning disabilities and in encouraging collaborative educational experiences within the greater Boston Jewish community. He is a pathologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the head and neck region. Jeff and his family live in Brookline.
Stephanie Pearl joined TI in 2004 and is "honored and proud to be part of the Temple Israel community." In addition to having been a member of the Council, she has also participated in Rabbi Zecher's Modern Women's Midrash classes and other Temple classes, seminars and social events. An attorney by profession, she began a new career in publishing after having her daughter. For the past two years she has been working at baystateparent magazine as the Sales and Business Development Manager. Stephanie and her husband, Laurence Bloom, live in Needham with their daughter, Alexandra.
