Interfaith Initiatives
Interfaith Initiatives
Temple Israel welcomes interfaith couples and families who are searching for connections with Judaism and synagogue life.
Together we will share our personal insights during special events and discussions, learn in stimulating classes, experience Jewish rituals and holidays and enjoy each other's company while we socialize and celebrate!
Worship
A member's home is the setting for Havdallah, the Saturday afternoon celebration of the end of Shabbat and the beginning of the new week.
Special Friday evening Learners' Services are designed for those who want to increase their familiarity and comfort with the prayer experience at Temple Israel.
Study
Gatherings with Text Study and Dinner allow us to approach Jewish texts in a critical and inclusive way, while Introduction to Judaism, taught by members of the clergy, provides a great learning opportunity over 16 weeks.
Explore
We have an annual Interfaith Journeys Dinner, at which several couples share their stories - about raising children in an interfaith family, negotiating lifecycle celebrations with extended families, the decision to convert, and more.
Additionally, through the URJ programs as well as our own organized discussions, there are several opportunities for interfaith couples to talk with one another about the challenges they face and the solutions they have discovered.
Connect
There is a social element to every gathering we have. For some, our Interfaith Initiatives provide a way to meet and get to know other members of the temple who share their interests. It is an opportunity to form a smaller affinity group within the larger Temple Israel community.
