Marilyn and Mike Grossman Caring Community
Among the many strengths of Temple Israel is its reputation as a community, as well as a congregation. The synagogue has worked hard to cultivate a culture of caring for and about each other, as well as about tikkun olam, or "repairing the world." Therefore, in addition to an active social justice outreach program there is also a growing group of congregants, a Caring Community, which is committed to "in reach."
Caring is contagious, and we believe that by being there for each other we will create a more connected and compassionate congregation. The Caring Community was thus organized to ensure that support and assistance are available to everyone within our synagogue family. We are here to offer support and help in times of sorrow and to offer congratulations in times of joy.
We currently have two primary activities: First, we call each member who has suffered a recent loss in their family. We extend our condolences on behalf of the Temple, offer support, and arrange for the delivery of a challah during the thirty-day period of shloshim.
The second "in reach" activity is at the other end of the life cycle spectrum when we call congregants who have welcomed a child through birth or adoption. We wish them mazel tov and send them The New Jewish Baby Book, by Anita Diamant, as a gift from the congregation. In addition to these existing efforts, we are building a system whereby we can offer help in more substantive ways.
Many congregants have been making calls as part of the Caring Community, and we hope that you will consider joining us. We would love to see our circle grow. In addition to seeking your participation, we also hope you'll let Cantor Einhorn's office know if you hear of anyone in our community who might benefit from assistance from the Caring Community.
If you'd like to join or learn more about the Caring Community, or if you have any questions, please contact co-chairs Tanya Goldwyn at 617-734-3122, Karen Victor at 617-277-6726, or Cantor Roy Einhorn at 617-566-3960.
Please consider deepening your involvement in Temple Israel in this meaningful and personal manner.
