29 Tevet 5776
Dear First Grade Families,
Today we learned about the story of Abraham and Sarah. G-d spoke to Abraham and told him to leave his home with his wife and nephew, Lot. God said, “I want you to go to the land I will give you. I promise that I will bless you, and make your family great. I will be with you in all you do, and because of you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” Abraham and his family moved. One night, G-d spoke to Abraham again and said, “Look up at the stars in the sky,” God said. “You will have a son. He will have children, and his children will have children, and they will have more children, and one day they will be as many as the stars in the sky.” We learned about the 3 strangers who came to visit Abraham and Sarah. They told Sarah that she would have a son. She laughed because she was too old to have children. However, Sarah had a boy and his name was Isaac, which means laughter. Each student made a collage depicting an important part of the story.
We also read a book called, “Abraham’s Search for God”, by Jacqueline Jules.
Please note that we do not have Sunday school on Sunday, January 17th due to Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend.
We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, January 24th!
