What is a sanctuary? Why is it an important part of a synagogue? We explored the sanctuary to find the answers to some of our many questions. We were curious about how large the sanctuary is and why it is so large, so we measured the entire room using our bodies (arm spans). We did a scavenger hunt throughout the campus in search of Jewish symbols such as the Star of David and the menorah, debriefing after and discussing why we think they are so important to Judaism. To conclude our discussion, we made a community web using string to connect each member of our group after we shared something about ourselves. The discussions we had were fantastic and so meaningful. Even though we had a small group and needed 100 more classes to finish some of our discussions, this was one of my favorite classes in my teaching career.
Wishing everyone a wonderful winter break and a Happy New Year,
P.S. Check out this awesome video of music with Scott!
