Ganei Beantown Jewish Gardens
In partnership with Ganei Beantown: Beantown Jewish Gardens, Temple Israel has launched an educational garden on our grounds, within the space of our biblical garden. Completed in 1976, and officially named the Ruth and Jack Gottlieb Memorial Graden, the biblical garden was a project of the garden club, led by Alice Sherman. Our new garden project is a continuation of the vision of earlier leaders of our congregation. Designed to introduce our congregants to Jewish farming precepts and to the agricultural bases for our liturgical cycle, this garden was cultivated to:
- Breathe new life into Jewish traditions, holidays, and social justice work by connecting to the myriad agricultural and food traditions of our people
- Connect our community to the larger sustainable food movement based on the values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), gemilut chasadim (benevolence), and l'ovda ul'shomra (to till and to tend).
- Produce high quality, locally grown food to nourish our families, communities, bodies and spirits.
This project was spearheaded by Becca Weaver and Leora Mallach of Ganei Beantown. Beantown Jewish Garden Project. Updates of our garden venture can be found at Becca and Leora's website.
